Our towing vessels are inspected under Subchapter M and hold current Coast Guard Certificates of Inspection.

Here is how we keep crews and cargo safe on the river.
Drug and alcohol program
Every crew member is in a drug and alcohol program that meets 46 CFR Part 16: pre-employment testing, random testing, testing after a serious marine incident, and testing for reasonable cause.
Training
New-hire orientation
New crew get health and safety training before or within their first five days on the job. It covers our safety plan, how to report unsafe conditions, protective gear, deck equipment, and lockout/tagout. That is the federal rule for towing vessels, and we meet it.
Mountwest Maritime Academy
In 2023 we donated training equipment to Mountwest Maritime Academy's new Ohio training site in Woodsfield, about ten minutes from the Hannibal Locks and Dam. Their graduates come to the river ready to work.
